Make a note in your calendar! Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Nov. 3, 2024 which means most of us in the U.S. will change our clocks back one hour. For many of us, we feel extra tired for a few days until we adjust. Certain individuals are more at risk of driving too tired and thus driving impaired. College students, medical shift workers, long distance truck drivers, cab and Uber/Lyft drivers who do night shifts, and others are at greater risk of being involved in a fatigue-related car crash. November 3rd also marks the beginning of National Sleep Foundation 2024 Drowsy Driving Prevention Awareness Week campaign. Please visit their website for tips on how to stay safe. We at Drowsy Driving Prevention Project would like to once again thank our partners at National Sleep Foundation, AAA Northeast, Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and the Safe Roads Alliance for supporting our effort to get this important message out…that drowsy driving is impaired driving and it is dangerous! And furthermore, the risk of of injuries and deaths resulting from drowsy driving is greater during the days following the clock change. We thank all of our partners for spreading the word about the dangers of tired driving.
